Jaylah\u2019s mother,\u00a0<strong data-start=\"585\" data-end=\"602\">Takila Donald<\/strong>, survived but remains in critical condition. A westbound\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1053\" data-end=\"1060\">BMW<\/strong>\u00a0slammed into the passenger side just after\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1118\">12:34 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-4\"><\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1120\" data-end=\"1269\">The impact killed Jaylah and her unborn son instantly. Takila was flown to\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1195\" data-end=\"1222\">Grady Memorial Hospital<\/strong>, where doctors continue to fight for her life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1271\" data-end=\"1552\">The BMW\u2019s driver,\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1289\" data-end=\"1309\">Brandon Robinson<\/strong>, suffered minor injuries. However, authorities later revealed that Robinson was allegedly\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1400\" data-end=\"1431\">driving under the influence<\/strong>. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics show that\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1750\">one-third of Thanksgiving crash deaths between 2019 and 2023 involved drunk drivers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1753\" data-end=\"1778\"><strong data-start=\"1756\" data-end=\"1778\">A Family Shattered<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\">\n<div id=\"weverydaystories.com_responsive_1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1779\" data-end=\"2023\">For Jaylah\u2019s family, the night unfolded like a nightmare. Her grandmother,\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"1874\">Genette Anderson<\/strong>, said the evening had been joyful and ordinary. Jaylah and her mother simply stepped out to give a neighbor a ride\u2014a small favor that turned deadly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2140\">The neighbor didn\u2019t realize anything was wrong until ambulances filled the street. That\u2019s when they called Genette.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\"><\/div>\n<p data-start=\"2142\" data-end=\"2321\">\u201cWhen I first got up there, I couldn\u2019t breathe,\u201d Genette recalled. Still, she pushed herself to stay strong. \u201cI can\u2019t question God. At the end of the day, we all have our number.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2323\" data-end=\"2365\"><strong data-start=\"2326\" data-end=\"2365\">A Young Mother With a Bright Future<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\">\n<div id=\"weverydaystories.com_responsive_1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"2366\" data-end=\"2574\">Jaylah had just graduated from\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2397\" data-end=\"2428\">Maynard Jackson High School<\/strong>\u00a0and planned to start college after her son\u2019s birth. She had told her father,\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2506\" data-end=\"2524\">Jonathan Ponds<\/strong>, about the pregnancy only hours before the crash.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\"><\/div>\n<p data-start=\"2576\" data-end=\"2707\">\u201cIt was crazy to find out I was going to be a grandfather,\u201d he said. \u201cA couple of hours later, I lose my daughter and my grandson.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2709\" data-end=\"2825\">On\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2712\" data-end=\"2727\">November 30<\/strong>, more than 50 friends and relatives gathered to release balloons into the sky in Jaylah\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2827\" data-end=\"2868\"><strong data-start=\"2830\" data-end=\"2868\">Community Support Through GoFundMe<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2869\" data-end=\"3159\">To help the grieving family,\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2898\" data-end=\"2913\">Arlena Hill<\/strong>\u00a0launched a GoFundMe campaign on Genette\u2019s behalf.<br data-start=\"2963\" data-end=\"2966\" \/>The fundraiser honors Jaylah\u2019s warm spirit and her excitement about becoming a mother. Although young, she embraced the pregnancy and constantly shared love and affection with those around her.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3161\" data-end=\"3249\">\u201cTo lose them both so suddenly is a heartbreak no family should endure,\u201d the page reads.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3251\" data-end=\"3441\">Funds will support funeral and burial costs, a memorial for Jaylah and her baby, and financial assistance for the family.
